Greek Artifacts

Ancient Greek art is unique among ancient cultures for its realistic yet idealized images of the human body, often featuring nude male figures. From about 750 to 300 BC, the style evolved rapidly, especially in sculpture. While there were significant advances in painting, these are mostly lost, except for the well-known painted pottery. Greek Neolithic art, along with Aegean art, precedes what is called "ancient Greek art." The latter typically includes four stylistic periods: Geometric, Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic.
